Been probably about 2 years since I've posted on here, glad to be back. Anyway, I've noticed the past few times I've run my BX that the engine seems to sputter a good bit, then last night it almost cut completely out on me. RPM's would drop to about nothing, then go up. Finally, they wouldn't come back up. I shut her down and waited a few minuted and it had enough power to lift my mower and get me back to my garage. Seems to me this is possibly a fuel line issue. Clogged filters, etc. In the manual that came with the tractor, all it says is see dealer for fuel filter replacement. I called and got the part number and will be picking it up this evening. Is there anything I need to know about this that they won't print it in the book? Also, please tell me if you feel I'm on a wild goose chase and it might be something else. Thanks!

Was there any white smoke, or make then normally? If your air filter is bady plugged you could see such performance.. ....

Sounds starved for fuel or air. With the hours on your tractor, could be either or both. Follow the manual closely for the fuel filter replacement. These are not self bleeding systems. If you get air in the fuel line, you will need to bleed it. ....

Beagle: Are you sure? I ran my BX2230 out of fuel once, (yeah, really bad idea) and after filling, it started and ran (badly for only a few minutes) afterward with out bleeding. ....

No, not sure on the 2230, but am sure on my 7800. It is not self bleeding. Could be self bleeding was an advancement on the 2230. ....

Thanks a ton for the replies guys. Last night I went to the "not so local" farm supply store and got 2 fuel filters, an air filter and something they recommended to add to the fuel if you fear you've got water in it. So..... I got home and removed both fuel filters, drained the tank dry, replaced the filter under the tractor right before the pump. Added about a quart of "good" fuel I just bought last night. Bled that by letter the pump suck it out just to get some clean fuel in there. Replaced the next filter and the air filter. Filled up the tank and let 'er rip. Fired up after about 3 tries and hummed like a kitten. I think I've get her fixed up now. Man I hope so. ....

There are 2 filters on the bx2200. One is located underneath. The BX2200 is self bleeding according to my book. Mine is a 2001. ....

I think this sounds like a fuel problem. When running out of fuel you can make a difference as to having to bleed or not! I was running a Cat 941 track loader the other day leveling out some heavy fill when it sputtered going over a small pile. I was quick to get on my way to the pump about 100ft away and it did drop a cylinder or two a couple of times on the way but I got it shut down still running smoothly. If the tank was further and it died on the way for sure I would have been bleeding the fuel system. When changing fuel filters some tractors can be done without extensive bleeding after to get them running. I've had some that fired right up after with only a small amount of blubbering for a few seconds after restart. Try to be sure the system is as full of fuel as you can get it before restart and open the throttle sto about half so the system cah clean it out better when it does stumble. ....

I think I remember something about how full the fuel tank should be when replacing the filter. Has something to do with the flow from the return line. Can't remember if it supposed to be more than half full or less, but I think less. I need to dig up the procedure and look. I have been lucky enough not to run out of fuel....yet. ....
